THE second mayoral candidate for Darwin has put up her hand.
Katrina Fong Lim, 50, from Nightcliff, is the fourth daughter of Norma and Alec - who was lord mayor between 1984 and 1990.
She is the only person to throw down the gauntlet to incumbent Graeme Sawyer so far.
She is on leave as Australia Day NT executive director, and plans to retire later in the year after 16 years.
"As lord mayor, I could lead a strong team to work toward the community and economic future of Darwin," she told the NT News.
She has never stood for public office before.
"I believe local government is the place to be," she said. "I've been working in community organisations for 20 years and understand the needs and concerns.
"For me, it's all or nothing, and I believe I will be most effective. I believe I have the qualifications and experience to give it a shot."
Ms Fong Lim carried the Olympic flame through Canberra on its way to the 2008 Beijing Games.
She went to preschool and primary school in Parap, and secondary school at Darwin High School.
She holds a bachelor of business in human resources and marketing, and a masters in accounting from the University of Southern Queensland.
The NT council elections are on March 24.
